Workshop FAQ-Who should attend the Workshops?

The workshop is a great place for anyone who wants to improve the overall quality of your work, especially in sports photography. If you have a passion for photography and an interest in sports, or a passion for sports and an interest in photography, or a passion for both sports and photography, then you are the perfect attendee. Ifyou already shoot sports photography or are trying to get into the business, then this is a great opportunity to become a better sports photographer and further develop your craft.

What Photo Gear Should I Bring to the Workshop?

You should bring the gear you already use to shoot with. The purpose of this workshop is to teach you how to get the best possible results with the gear you already have. The same is true for lighting and remote gear. As a bonus feature for attending the workshop, we will have a selection of Canon professional camera bodies and lenses to work with, as well as Westcott lighting gear to play with and further enhance your learning and shooting experience.

What Computer Gear should I Have?

Everyone should have a laptop computer (either Windows or Mac) with some photo editing software such as Lightroom, Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. I highly recommend Photo Mechanic (or Photo Mechanic Plus) for editing your shoots. We will have a site license for Photo Mechanic so that those of you who do not already own the program can try it out. It is by far the fastest way to edit and organize your work. You should have memory cards, a card reader, and a USB flash drive. It is also a good idea to bring an external hard drive if you have one, as you will probably end up with more images than your laptop can hold. While this is a shooting workshop and not a workflow event, you will need to download and edit your images on a daily basis. Everyone will have the opportunity to turn in selected images on their USB drive for a daily morning anonymous review and critique. The very best images will be showcased on the workshop website and Facebook page.

What about Transportation during the Workshop?

The workshop does not provide transportation to the scheduled sporting events. We highly encourage carpooling or sharing rental cars with other students. The workshop Facebook page is the best way for you to communicate with each other and coordinate things like carpooling, rental cars, and sharing hotel rooms.
